United States forces push closer to Manila with unopposed landings on Mindoro east and west coasts. Gen Douglas MacArthur reports 30 more Japanese ships sunk or ablaze in Philippine waters as Mindoro bases extend toward Luzon.
Fifty-one births were recorded at the New Castle hospital in December, including 21 female and 30 male infants. New Castle High School remarks on graduation hats worn by the January 1945 class.
