Davies is named safety head after a new alignment. The first vote on the change passed by a 3 to 2 margin. New councilmen were formally sworn in during a ceremony at the city council chamber at ten o'clock.

Howard Gold aged 14 son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Z Gold of 413 West Washington street drowned Sunday night about 7 45 near the West Washington street bridge in the Shenango river when a sled broke through ice. His body was recovered about 45 minutes later from five hundred feet below the bridge after rescue efforts failed. Local residents used a rowboat to reach the scene despite ice hazards and retrieved the victim.
The sixth section of the Twentieth Century Limited on the New York Central rear ended the fifth section as it backed into yards in Chicago. An engineer was fatally injured and a woman passenger seriously hurt while several others were bruised or shaken. The heavy traffic tone caused schedule slips. The injured passenger was taken to a hospital.
The January session of Lawrence County Pomona Grange will convene Thursday January 7 in the Westfield grange hall. Morning opening at 10 30, afternoon at 1 00, lunch cafeteria style by Westfield ladies. Local subordinate granges will participate in a varied program.
Queen Mother of Italy dies today after illness. King Emmannuel stands at her bedside. She was widow of King Umberto and a beloved figure to Italians.
Dowager Queen Margherita, mother of King Victor Emmanuel, died in Bordighera at 11 o clock this morning at age 74. King Emmanuel and Queen Helena were beside her as she passed. She had suffered pleurisy since December 16 and had shown some improvement before weakening again. Born November 20, 1851, she was the daughter of Prince Ferdinando of Savoy and married Umberto of Savoy in 1868.
Police were told Sunday that a handbag and a green robe disappeared from a car en route to Slippery Rock. No suspects or further details were provided.
