Rundle statement averts walkout at fiberglass plant

A threatened walkout by 225 Local 365 union members at Universal-Rundle's Taylor Township fiberglass plant was averted when the company pledged to negotiate until a contract is reached. Talks cover three plants in Taylor Township Ottumwa and Union Point with master terms for all three. key issues include wages seniority and contract language. Negotiations began Oct 1 with sessions in Houston and Cincinnati. a 10 day window remains to avert a strike if talks fail.

Dupont Plaza fire kills ninety five in Puerto Rico

Rescuers report 95 bodies recovered from the Dupont Plaza hotel in San Juan after New Year’s Eve explosions and fire making it the second deadliest U S hotel blaze. Investigators from FBI and ATF assist pathologists as relatives seek missing persons, with tourism officials warning of potential revenue losses if safety fears persist.

Hotel blaze claims two state residents

A Philadelphia woman is among at least two Pennsylvanians confirmed dead in a New Year’s Eve fire at a San Juan hotel. Three others remained missing as officials later listed Rosalyn Nude as dead among an estimated 95 victims. Emma Yanni of Lake Wallenpaupack, 75, was reportedly killed in the casino explosion. The two couples had traveled from Dec. 24 and were to return on New Year’s Eve. Fire crews recovered many bodies and dental records were used to identify victims.
