Lockley Union Opposes AFL-CIO Election Assessment
Lockley Local 6471 United Steelworkers voted unanimously against a national AFL-CIO plan to charge members five cents for the November election. The local argued unions should not be assessed without full local agreement. AFL-CIO leaders in Miami Beach backed the measure to fund a large register and get-out-the-vote campaign for President Johnson.

Burglars Take Cash and Valuables From Pazak Home
Burglars used a green pickup to steal more than 3625 dollars in cash bonds and items from Joseph S. Pazak at 226 W Garfield Ave. They broke a west side window entered unlocked the kitchen door and ransacked the bedroom taking a metal box with 3300 in savings bonds 250 in cash and undetermined jewelry. A portable TV and a record player were also missing. A console TV was moved into the living room and clues included footprints and a truck seen nearby by Pazak’s father in law Frank Palumbo. A second break in involved a beauty salon at 14 S Mercer St where a hair dryer and chair valued at 250 were taken after a fire. Another report notes 26 dollars stolen from Hutchinson's Inc at 31 N Beaver St from a cash register. a padlock forced on a feed store door.

State trooper William Ball recovered a safe stolen from Lusk's Grocery at 1538 Mt. Jackson Rd. The burglars entered by cutting a roof hole, moved the safe to a storage room, and loaded it into a vehicle toward Covert Crossing before Ball arrived to find only intact papers inside.
