Council minutes reveal questions about whether contractor Eichenlaub was paid for concrete on Main Street while slag bed foundations remained. A flash light artist Barry Ellis drew attention as a humorous aside, while petitions and street gutter complaints dominated the meeting.

Frank C. Brown of the New Castle Traction Co. was badly burned on the left hand while adjusting a live line at the car barn on Tuesday at 10 a m. The injuries included the heel wrist and back of fingers and were dressed by a North Mercer surgeon.
A petition signed by a hundred leading citizens protests the Sherman bill removing brokers ticket offices and scalper ticket sales. The petition has been forwarded to Congressman T W Phillips.
At Alderman Bowman's office three hearings proceeded. Andrew Senaka was discharged after evidence failed to prove assault. Frank Kanapka's case was postponed to February 23 due to absent witnesses. Andy Gamrah admitted breaking a bass vial during a dance and was held for court.
The Dr Bell case will be argued late next week with Hon A L Haxen as sole arbitrator awarding the Thompson Run Coal Co. $761.29 plus costs against Pittsburg Co. Cars on highway were seized during coal transport delays. Sheriff sale updates Boozer property and real estate transfers in Pulaski and Wampum townships.
S. E. Maxwell of New Castle Specialty Manufacturing has a device in development to register the number that rang a telephone while the owner was away. He has applied for a patent and believes he is close to solving the problem.
Mrs Barge of South Mill street slipped on ice Sunday around 4 pm and dislocated her right hip. Dr Walter E Miller of Long avenue treated and reduced the injury, and she is recovering well. In other news Buwers Premium Sales offers muslins calicoes and ginghams at lower prices than any merchant today at the mills.
Andy Stein a Transfer employee for the Pennsylvania company at the Junction broke a left rib while rushing to the shifter. Dr. Ed Cooper treated the fracture. The item notes a separate sale of 250 towels arriving from New York auction room with prices at 12 15 and 19 cents at Euwers'.
John Ash formerly of Mingo Junction Ohio and a steel mill worker is severely ill at his Washington Street residence with pneumonia. He is described as in critical condition and under medical care.

Remnants calico 3 cents a yard and apron gingham 3 4 cents a yard on bargain sale Friday at Brown and Hamilton stores.
The burglars who entered J. B Alexander's store were remanded to jail for court by Alderman Bowman on Monday. They were arrested for breaking and entering the store recently.
Bargain sale at Euwers' offers wallpaper at 50 cents on the dollar to clear room for new goods this week. The ad promises big savings on interior decor as customers stock up.
J J Greene, a train dispatcher for the P and W at New Castle Junction, narrowly escaped two attackers while returning home from Mahoningtown. Lacking a weapon he pointed a large meerschaum pipe as if it were a pistol, startling the assailants and letting him flee across the Shenango River bridge.
Mrs. Robert Stewart of South Mill street was taken to Shenango Valley hospital on Tuesday morning due to a suspected fever. She has been ill for several days and chose the hospital since her daughter works there as a nurse.
Frank Conti the Italian interpreter who bailed Congetta Padoano surrendered her on Monday after she was charged before Alderman Bowman with stealing $80 by Antonio Frassa weeks ago. She was remanded to jail.
James H. Duberry was arrested for desertion and bailed 200 for a Thursday hearing before Alderman J. P. Leslie. His wife made no claim for support. residence in First ward. Other cases include Lafazee charged with assault and battery with criminal assault attempt and Shoettich charged with perjury after a prior arrest for stealing an overcoat. bail set at 500. All residents cited in West New Castle.
Lee Nice of Bessemer suffered a severe arm injury when a blasting powder exploded while tamping. The accident occurred last week during his return to work after a prolonged illness. Local notice hints at upcoming sales but provides no additional details.
Aaron Haines of the First ward received a telegram from New Jersey on Monday stating his mother Mrs. Benjamin Haines a former resident of the city is dead. He and his wife left Monday evening to attend the funeral. Also notice of a big remnant sale Friday and Saturday at Brown and Hamilton's.

Col D. M. Cubbison, proprietor of the Fountain Inn, announces plans for building greater improvements to his property and operations.
Ten new style gas engines are being assembled at the Ballbearing Manufacturing company with Vulcan foundry castings. The engines run on gas or gasoline, ignite by an electric spark, and deliver about five horse power for small machinery. Architect Herman F. Kling visits during plans for spring additions to Fountain Inn including a larger dining room and more sleeping spaces. Col Cubbison weighs adding a story to the building but prefers rear extensions. The old brick plant, once used by the First Presbyterian Church and later the New Castle Brewing company, is now a machine shop.
The ongoing project progresses rapidly toward completion and will significantly increase the building's seating capacity.
Alf Wylie the City Clothing House manager and Lewis Genkinger will open a first class clothing house around March 10 in the room recently used by the City Clothing House.
