Survived by wife and eight children, a brother in Hungary, and four sons-in-law. Funeral Friday at 2 p.m. at Farell Presbyterian with Rev. Nagy. interment in Carpenter Cemetery. Body viewings at Cunningham Funeral Home in Lersburg tonight.
A New Bedford district man Metra Hydrick, about 50, died when a motorist struck him as he walked toward Youngstown along Route 422 near Coltsville after midnight. Frank Shipton found the crushed body at about 2 am. Hydrick lived in Lawrence County and had been hitchhiking to a daughter in Youngstown. The identity was confirmed late morning and the Hydrick family was notified around noon.
Frances Perkins the first woman secretary of labor defended her conduct at a private executive session before the house judiciary committee. Impeachment charges had been brought by Rep. J Parnell Thomas of New Jersey, but the hearing was held in executive session after a brief committee discussion.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission asks the Supreme Court to overturn precedent and uphold the original cost method of valuing utilities. The row centers on Edison Light and Power Co of York, Pa, with a commission order forcing a $425,000 annual revenue reduction. The commission appealed after a federal court injunction, a long-standing issue in the public utility industry.
International News Service reports Washington will not recognize Franco while Italian and German forces remain in Spain. Conditions for recognition include complete troop withdrawal, capitulation of the Loyalist government, a stable unified government, and settlement of international obligations including debts and seized property. Recognition of a new regime would follow these terms.
Through the action of Frank B Offutt the Lawrence County Chapter American Red Cross has secured a large sewer room brick residence at 939 North Beaver street which will be converted into a Chapter House to house growing activities in the community. Present quarters are not large enough for the increasing work and additional room is necessary so the chapter can function properly. Offutt has made possible the purchase of the property at no more cost to them than continued on page two.
Harrisburg Feb 8 Thomas C Frame of Franklin was appointed by Gov Arthur H James as chief engineer of the highway department at 10000 dollars a year. He succeeds Samuel W Marsha who resigned to take a similar post with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.

In heavy fog in the English Channel last night the French cruiser Georges Leygues and destroyer Bilson collided. Two seamen were killed and 30 injured. Leygues is a 7,600 ton cruiser commissioned in 1997. Bilson is a 2,900 ton destroyer launched in 1930.
New York report states Clington J. Morse fifty five, on trial in federal court as an associate of Charles Bob in an alleged four hundred fifty six thousand nine hundred dollar stock swindle, hanged himself in his hotel suite. His wife Martha discovered the body and fled the hotel, still missing hours later.
Harrisburg reports Democrats clash over budget relief policy as the legislature votes to recess until February 27 to allow Governor James to complete his budget and send the $22,008,000 relief appropriation to the Senate for final approval. The move follows Republican support with Democratic dissent over adjournment timing. James signs a bill transferring 4 million dollars from the liquor license fund to the treasury for relief.
