Embargo on freight of all classes less than carload lots was lifted today on the Pennsylvania lines east of Pittsburg. No announcement on carload freight. Officials expect a few days more mild weather to greatly improve traffic conditions.
McKeesport Pa February 8 William Burchell age 41 died after a street car collision. He was hanging on the rear of a crowded street car when a boulevard truck struck the car and crushed him. The incident occurred late last night and Burchell suffered a broken back and died almost instantly.
A request to create a city matron with police powers was presented to the city council by the New Castle Federation of Women's clubs. Mrs Carrie Jeffery Roberts was named as the suggested appointee. The council unanimously voted to place the ordinance on file and have the solicitor draft the measure. Beighley chosen street commissioner at $1500 salary, taking office March 1.
W W Warner the Neshannock Falls poet was summoned for another examination by the county board under the questionnaire. He had been rejected by the Camp Sherman examiner for physical disabilities but returned to be reexamined with others. He is currently working in Youngstown and traveled to the exam.
New Castle reports eleven German aliens registered at the mayor's office. Police are ordered to arrest any unregistered German aliens by tomorrow. The registered men are mature, long-term residents with families and no naturalization papers.
Telegram from Amsterdam dated Feb 8 reports the Austrian cabinet resigned due to political and labor disputes within the dual monarchy. The dispatch says Premier Van Zeyedler handed the resignation to Emperor Charles, despite earlier erroneous reports of a resignation.
Washington February 8. The keel of the first new type of submarine chasers has been laid and side frames are in place. Secretary Daniels announced after a telegram from Henry Ford. Ford is building many for the government. This marks a new record in naval construction. The type was adopted less than two weeks ago and the first contract set. The craft are standardized and multi fitting, built with ease like standard automobiles.
Washington reports a complete deadlock between President Wilson and Congress over war governance. Senators fear the blanket powers bill will die in committee unless amended, while both the war cabinet and munitions dictator bills face defeat if voted on soon. Formal hearing of Charles Colnot city master mechanic charged with uttering alleged seditious statements was fixed for Friday afternoon February 15 by a council vote. City Solicitor James A. Gardner prepared the resolution detailing charges from G. A. Dickson chairman of the Lawrence county public safety committee. The resolution allows principals to issue subpoenas for witnesses and requires oath of testimony.

She has completed seven sweaters eleven wristlets and two pairs of socks while also doing housework. Mrs Elizabeth Davidson of Locust street has knitted one scarf three helmets four sweaters six pairs of socks and twenty wristlets.
Washington February 8 Work less Mondays were suspended in eight southern states by Fuel Administrator Garfield due to improved weather conditions. The amendment exempts lamp shops employing International Garment workers on government contracts. States exempted include North and South Carolina Georgia Florida Alabama Tennessee Mississippi and Louisiana.

Reports from Washington say 101 dead from the torpedoing of the Tuscania, including 73 U S soldiers. Hospitals hold 81 more, with fears of deaths from exposure. Total aboard 2397, rescued 2296, missing 101, crew missing 28.
Deputy Attorney General Hargest says county treasurers must enforce dog license code without pay, no provision for compensation. They may hire extra clerks but are not obliged to cover postage for issued licenses. applicants must prepay postage if tags and receipts are mailed.
The state department had no confirmation of Stockholm rumors that foreign legations and embassies were expelled from Petrograd and headed to Sweden. A Stockholm dispatch claimed Torneo was captured by the White Guard and trains carrying Romanian legation members and other passengers arrived from Petrograd.
Washington reports union president S. E. Heberling urged the railway wage commission to enforce an eight hour day for switchmen with time and a half for overtime. He claimed railroads violate the eight hour law and switchmen are worked to exhaustion.
