New Middletown Ohio February 6 1893 report shows Master Brace of Youngstown is very ill with brain fever at his grandparents Mr and Mrs David Metts home. Several local residents including Mrs S P Coller Mrs Wm Kerr and Miss Melissa Foust are mentioned in illness or visits. W R Martin resumes teaching winter school at Bessemer after a break.
HARLANSBURG Pa Feb 7 1893 local items include visitors Alfred Eppinger and Miss Burris guests of locals, revival by Rev B P Clark, Me church, and district Sunday School event on Feb 17. Clayton Hettenbaugh died of membranous croup aged 13, funeral led by Rev Bingham. interment at Harlansburg cemetery. Republicans held primaries naming township officers. good report lists pupils with perfect attendance in Room 1 plus a few missing days in other students.
In Bic Beaver Pennsylvania on Monday several miners were flooded out at the Philips coal bank due to heavy rain. Bill Brittain did not inherit Miss Stephenson's fortune and was not her nephew as previously claimed. Voters from both parties gathered at the Pine Swamp school house to discuss moving the polling place from the center of the first precinct to Newport, a committee being formed to raise funds to test the change legally.

T W Chambers has opened a grocery business in Pittsburg. A group of local youths spent Friday night at Alford Wellar’s residence. Preaching is planned at the M E Church Saturday at two. Communion services will be held Sunday at 11. The cornet band presented a gold watch and chain to their leader Earnest McCleary last week.
Exon Valley Pa reports visitors from Allegheny and Stateline. Mrs George Vanhorn returns home from Allegheny to visither mother Mrs Burge. Misery of Stateline in town visiting friends Samuel McClure and wife plan to move to Santiago Cal with their son Everett. Y's meeting at Dr McKean's home. Miss Kate Aubrey returns from Alliance. Wilbert Jones attends business college in New Castle. Miss Dora Madden hosts Catch him if you can clan. Charles Caskey suffers a frozen ear. Clara Pickels birthday celebrated with a surprise party, about twenty five couples attended and an elegant supper served. Mrs James Garrett of this place rumored ill with diphtheria. Sam Siemens store rebuilt after fire. Miss Maud Reed improves. Mrs Frank Gibson ill with sore throat. James Pager buys a new upright piano. J M Aubrey travels to Pittsburg. A corn social held at Mrs Powers home. Dave Gilmore learns of sister Mrs Alexander Hempster's Pittsburg death. Lissia Evarn of Palestine visits. Infant of William B Hamel buried here from Pittsburg. Harry Earley laid off after crowbar injury.
The New York senator Hill urged repeal of the Sherman silver purchase act and backed free bimetallic coinage, but the motion failed 23 to 42. The Senate then passed the quarantine bill and taxation-on-lands for Indians, with the automatic coupler bill held for Tuesday. In the House, Kilgore led filibusters against the anti option and bankruptcy bills, adjournment after repeated roll calls and a no quorum vote.
In Kansas City on Sunday stalwart Democrats met at the Midland hotel to push the fight against fusion. The gathering included the stalwart Democratic central committee and prominent state leaders. A state central committee meeting is set for Topeka February 8 with invitations extended to all Democrats to participate. The movement has gained momentum since anti-Republican forces allied with Senator John Martin’s election.
Washington February 3 President Harrison sent to Congress his reply to Representative Hitt regarding regulations for moving imported merchandise from one part of the United States to another via Canadian territory. He questions treaty obligations and asserts Congress controls transit rules while noting possible abrogation of article 29. He argues Canada and U S border inspections and customs control should guide any change, and that sealed cars through Canada fall under U S law.
The text argues that current statutes governing merchandise movement between the United States and British possessions are inconsistent with safety of revenue and should be revised. It urges recalibrating treasury regulations to match new conditions and realigning the Canadian Pacific railway’s impact to a fairer basis for people and transportation firms.
Reported insult to Mrs Cochran sparked a violent night clash at Stafford Point where Dr Cochran shot Clinton Edwards dead after being attacked with a stone. Station agent Watts, aided by telegraph operator, held off a mob until sheriff and posse arrived to escort Watts and arrest him for transport to Richmond for examination. The town remains tense with whites armed and vigilant as authorities guard the area.
A caboose and a freight car derailed on the Michigan division of the Big Four near Wanasa Indiana three miles north of Niles after a wheel flange failed. The cars tumbled down a 20 foot embankment. the stove ignited debris. Injured: conductor James Scott. brakemen Fred Scott and William Palmer. attorneys Frank Hammond and Henry C Price. Palmer severely hurt. Scott brothers and Palmer hospitalized with serious injuries. The two attorneys escaped with minor cuts.
Terre Haute Ind Feb 7 The entire Louisville and Nashville system faces a possible general strike by engineers and firemen after wage demands. Grand Chief Frank R Sargent returned to intercede as engineers seek 83 59 per day for under 100 miles and 31 cents per mile beyond. Firemen earn 34 percent of engineers wages. a two thirds vote could trigger a system wide tie up.
Attorney Brennan states Clifford not at the mill or grounds until after noon July 6 and claims he was in bed at 11 o'clock. Witnesses testify the first shots came from barges and that Clifford was not seen until the afternoon amid the riot crowds.
Lowell Mass Feb 7 Frank Looney set a world amateur record in a flying jump on skates on the Mer Rimac river Sunday afternoon clearing 16 feet 1 inch. About forty spectators witnessed the event. The previous best was 15 feet 6 inches by St Seaton at Cortland lake New York January 17 1583.
