Accused man testifies on 1988 Slaying and plea deal
David Michael Greblin 41 of Enon Valley testified in a degree of guilt hearing about the Dec 13 1988 fatal shooting of Edward Sumner 64 at Sumner's Little Beaver Township home. Greblin described an argument over his wife Dorothy Darlene Greblin and said he thought Sumner would grab a weapon. He admitted firing five shots including one in the head while Sumner’s back was turned. Greblin said he was afraid Sumner would kill him and that he later disposed of the gun. He noted Sumner had loaded weapons around his house. The hearing continues as prosecutors and defense weigh a plea bargain offering up to third degree murder or possible first or second degree charges.

City weighs stiff fines for scavengers in recycling push

Students show weak geography knowledge across US seniors
UPI reports the Education Department found most high school seniors cannot locate Southeast Asia on a map and misidentify climate and seasons. In a 1987-88 NAEP geography test of 3,030 seniors, whites scored 60.5 percent correct while Hispanics and blacks lagged at 48 and 42.5 percent. Failing variations include many misplacing major countries and landmarks, difficulty with longitude and latitude, and shallow cultural geography understanding.
