Defense argues Rosena acted in self defense after a quarrel with John Coccho and declares a gunshot was justified to save his life. They claim court errors in admitting and excluding testimony and seek a new trial at the March term, with possible pardon board appeal if denied.
Two new assaults on young women reported in Pittsburg as Mrs. A Boulfrois, former actress, was kicked and punched by a big man near her East end home. Anna Kleinlein, 22, a grocery cashier, fought off two foreigners and collapsed at a doorstep. Authorities vow heightened patrols to curb district violence.

Jury returns a sealed verdict after a three day trial in Ellwood City. Samuel T Kopf sued for $2106 over goods shipped from Ellwood City to Bessemer. Nine boxes lost, two recovered at Erie. Seven missing. jury awards $1485 to Kopf.
In New Bedford a mumps fashion spreads across ages and classes with Carl Hall of a local store and Harper Montgomery of the Baltimore and Ohio offices named among recent victims. Most are reported to be recovering well as older patients joke about renewing youth while denying attacks from accusers.
Filer coal mines in Grove City Pa were closed for an indefinite period because lake boats cannot carry coal across Lake Erie to Canada. This annual winter disruption typically lasts a short time, with transport difficulties ending the shut-down.
Plans announced for extension of the Lake Erie and Youngstown electric railroad from Youngstown to Smiths Ferry via Petersburg Enon Valley New Galilee and Darlington with over 10 miles of track in Lawrence county The $3 000 000 Lake Erie and Youngstown Corp is led by John H Ruhlman with German and various city capitalists backing the project Gasoline motors will power trains with several cars per train and a regular schedule expected once weather permits The line would greatly aid development for farmers and residents in southern Lawrence county by linking allowed towns and connecting two existing roads.

Seven defendants in oleo Margarine cases were held for court after a long Alderman Green hearing. Pure Food agents and Prof Aschman of Pittsburg testified on sample collection and analysis showing the product was colored oleo. Records show no permits since December 17, 1907, despite many new poles and much wire in New Castle.
Two New Castle men Colonel Robert W. Morris and Captain M C Rose were in Washington city at Ford's theater the night Abraham Lincoln was shot by J Wilkes Booth. Their recollections follow as does Luther McGinnis of Chestnut street who was there and recalls the horror and rumor mill. Morris describes his service with the Ninety fifth Pennsylvania and how he saw Lincoln weekly at the Lincoln hospital and spoke with him. He also witnessed Booth's assassination act from Ford's theater and recalls the shock and crowd reaction. Rose, also nearby, and Joseph Hunter of New Wilmington attended the Keystone hotel and learned Lincoln would be at the theater. A Lincoln centennial memorial service is planned the following Friday at the First Christian church with Rev C S Brooks delivering the address.

Dayton investigates the death of Elizabeth Fulhart, a sixth local murder victim. Albert Wilkie and Roy Cooley, former admirers, are being questioned as police seek a clue to a suspected sexual убийный killer. Evidence suggests the body was drugged and placed in a cistern with a bag over the head.
Secretary Read of the New Castle club has signed Tom Hughes a pitcher from Altoona Pennsylvania. Recommended by Joe Wilson who played first for the Necks last season. The Rachael A. Palmer versus Lawrence County damages suit over Pittsburg road grading was tried this forenoon and is now with the jury. Other trials on the list could not be heard this week, remaining cases being leftovers from last week.
Trinity church will feature special music with the offertory anthem O Saving Victim by Tours sung by boy soprano Master Carl Myland. Miss Alice Cubbison will sing the other solo parts. George Oprades Nick Dinuteas and era George were jailed by Alderman Crabill on a serious offense against society with a hearing to follow.
In Littleton east of Wheeling a gang entered Mrs. Martha Gorby’s home to rob her of cash. Her grandson James Gorby, unaware, shot at the robbers and was killed from five shots. Police captured the gang in Cameron after a gun battle. Gorby identified the assailants before dying.
The State School Directors association adjourned in Harrisburg after refusing to propose amendments to the school law. A three member committee was named to confer with the legislature’s educational committee. Officers were elected including President James A. Steese and three vice presidents. Delegates to the National Educational Association were named.
Mrs. R G Anderson found a blue skirt missing after drying on the line. She alleged it was in the possession of Mrs. Anne Ruddleson of Snakes Rest. An information charging larceny was filed before Alderman Ranney. Ruddleson claimed her husband a rag packer found no skirt. Hearing promised to clear the mystery.
