Harrisburg Ag Secretary James A. McHale said dairy farmers rejected a proposed 2.5 million milk promotion fund financed by a nickel per hundredweight. The mail vote 9,894 to 5,972 cited low profits and high feed costs. Eastern Milk Producers led opposition arguing against farmer levy. The measure failed 9,922 to 3,500 and McHale blamed the Milk Marketing Board for farmer hardship.

Four youths hurt in Union Township crash
Four city youths were in a 2:40 a.m. accident when their car westbound on W Washington Street lost control, struck and broke a Penn Power pole, then hit three parked cars. Dennis A. Vrabel 18 led the car, injuring Vrabel Heasley Mastropietro, with Mastropietro treated for a scalp cut and hand pain at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Lombardo 28 was not injured.

City men charged with arson in East Side fires
