Nellie V. Richards was granted divorce from Earl F. Richards by Judge Porter on grounds of cruel and barbarous treatment. She testified of choking, threats, and a plan of death by own action during their stormy marriage from 1900 onward, including incidents in Pittsburg Norristown New Castle and Philadelphia area. A family on East County Line Road woke to a barking dog early Monday morning and thwarted a probable break in. Marks at the rear floor show an attempted entry. a man fled through a field at the back as Mr. Schuster investigated. No suspect has been notified.
A claim filed by C Warner against the city of New Castle charges negligence after Warner fell on an icy North Beaver street sidewalk. He seeks 5000 dollars in damages, alleging the city failed to remove the ice.
W Fowler files a claim for 0.45 against the New Castle Trotting Association. The lawsuit seeks payment for a balance on building and fence construction. The trotting grounds are to be sold by the sheriff.

The Catholic Federation of Youngs Town has been organized, forming a new religious community group in the area. Members say the federation will focus on youth outreach, education, and charitable activities within the city.
The Young Woman's Christian Association keeps its books open for charter membership until it moves into permanent rooms in the Woods block. Miss Grace Erhardt, the new secretary, is expected around January 15. The treasury holds $200, dues reception planned, temporary rooms over Frey’s grocery open daily.
In Milwaukee on December 31 managers for Hugo Kelly and Billy Papke push for a rematch after a fierce ten round draw. Both claim the other deserved the decision as spectators split on who had the edge. Kelly appeared to outpoint Papke while Papke pressed and nearly kayoed him on several moments.
Rochester N Y Dec 31 Two men in an automobile held up a trolley car this morning and relieved the crew of a chest containing 2859 in cash.
Rev Jere Knode Cooke plans to induce his estranged wife to divorce him so he can wed his ward Floretta Ley who eloped with him from Hempstead L I They hid with friends in San Francisco and will return East once able to pay fares They will sell their furniture as they await funds and face possible public exposure while Cooke vows to marry Floretta if divorce is granted He admits wronging only his word and says he loves Floretta and their child.
Washington reports that a forthcoming financial bill would allow gilt edge commercial paper and first lien real estate mortgages as security for national bank circulation. The move aims to help small southern and western banks obtain currency without buying bonds, while keeping limits moderate. Republicans seek Democratic support to pass the measure swiftly.
In Findlay Ohio two men listed as London England residents Joseph A. Laboon and J C Moran are jailed on diamond robbery charges after forcing their way into Thompson's jewelry store, taking a tray valued at $3000, beating the proprietor, and fleeing with the gems. They were captured by firefighters and all diamonds except two rings were recovered. Thompson was injured but not seriously.
Secretary Taft arrived in Boston amid signs of a united Massachusetts delegation backing him for the Republican National Convention.
