Lawrence County budget adds a 3.6 percent cost of living raise for elected officials based on the CPI. Some row officers plan to keep the extra this year as personal costs rise, while others will donate portions to United Way and local charities.
The Jordan Brown homicide case remains a major Lawrence County story as another court hearing looms and a key decision is anticipated. Judge Dominick Motto ruled in 2010 that Brown should be tried as a juvenile for two killings, a saga that began when 11 year old Brown was arrested in February 2009 for the shooting death of Kenzie Houk at the family home.
Neshannock Township supervisors adopt a 7.6 million 2012 spending plan totaling 7,681,409 dollars, maintaining a 1.9 mill property tax and leaving other taxes unchanged. The vote is unanimous while objections focus on a township manager role and missing job descriptions. The budget eliminates the roadmaster post held this year by Joe Gierlach and cuts administration positions.
Lawrence County's Sear and Kmart locations survived initial cut while Sears Holding Corp disclosed up to 120 store closures. A preliminary list of 79 planned closings shows Shenango Township Kmart and Union Township Sears exempt. Florida faces 11 closures. Ohio Michigan Georgia follow with six. Tennessee North Carolina Minnesota each four.
