Penn Power files fuel cost adjustment with PUC
Penn Power submitted a fuel cost adjustment to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to apply to all electric rates billed on and after March 1 1971. The adjustment links bills to monthly changes in coal and fossil fuel costs with monthly variations in customer bills. An example using November costs shows about an eight cent per 100 kWh rise, roughly 41 cents monthly for the average 504 kWh residential use, with December costs likely higher. President D Bruce Mansfield cited nationwide use of fuel adjustments and rising coal prices, noting efforts to control costs while passing increases to customers. He blamed mine costs new regulations and high coal buyer competition for price escalation. The plant sources most coal locally within 40 miles and the New Castle Plant consumes about 3 000 tons daily.
