New Castle post office breaks Christmas season records with 27000 one cent stamps and 13222 two cent stamps sold yesterday. A massive rush from 8 am to 9 pm filled the lobby as 30000 postcards mailed Sunday and Monday await processing. Extra clerks were drafted. delivery expected to clear all packages unless today’s rush surpasses forecasts.
Baskets distributed to the poor contained celery, candy, bread, butter, grapes, oranges, rice, navy beans, mixed nuts, corn, potatoes, sugar, tomatoes, condensed milk, a chicken, coffee, peanuts, and were packed in two half bushel baskets.

National News Agency reports Prince Yamagata was attacked at Sekiguchi Koishikawa and stabbed but not seriously hurt. The would be assassin, 22, swallowed morphine and died in prison. Police probe considers insanity and possible accomplices in the household. The prince, born 1838, is a field marshal and privy council president.
President R H Boggs of the Pitts burg Butler Harmony and New Castle Street Railway company will tomorrow present every employee of his road with a $500 life policy from Equitable Life Assurance as a Christmas gift. The premium is paid by the company and the policy lasts while the worker remains in service.
Gov Wilson announces Mrs Wilson has selected Miss Isabella L Hagner of Washington DC to be her social secretary at the White House. Hagner previously served as social secretary to Mrs Roosevelt for seven years and gained fame for managing Roosevelt social affairs. Gov Wilson traveled from Princeton through deep snow to the state house, arriving early as others were late.
Edward E. Hileman has opened a downtown sales room in the opera house block and will there display automobiles for which he is agent.
A City water scare in New Castle prompts residents to stop bathing as reports say the water is putrid and unfit for drinking or cooking. A Pennsylvania trainman from Eastside recently bathed but after dressing his wife detected a foul odor, likening him to a groundhog.
Abia Butler a veteran of the Civil War and longtime resident of New Castle died at his home 911 Court Street Monday evening at 7 due to heart failure. He served three years and three months in Company C 16th Illinois Infantry. Survived by three sons John A William H and Frank M Butler and two daughters Christine and Jean. Funeral at his residence Thursday 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church with burial in Slippery Rock cemetery.
