In Ossining on December 22 Officer Frank Minnerly was shot while attempting to arrest James Brown, a described bad man. Three bullets struck Minnerly, who died or is fatally wounded. Brown escaped.
Joseph Love and his wife Rebecca were released on $200 bail each to await the March term on charges of selling cigars to minors. They waived a hearing before Alderman Ranney and were held for court. Love faced additional counts of disorderly conduct and assault and battery from Florence Smith who alleges a half bushel measure was thrown at her. Love was discharged for lack of evidence after a hearing before Alderman Ranney.
A shipment of ten to twelve large dry goods boxes of paper towels arrived at city hall this morning. Purchasing Agent Barnett arranged the wholesale purchase and the towels will be stored at city hall for future use at the public comfort station, ensuring supplies for months ahead.
