The First Presbyterian Church unanimously calls Rev. Robert Yost of Joliet Illinois to be pastor with an annual salary of 3600 dollars plus 200 dollars moving expenses. The church, meeting with 85 of 800 members present, expects his pastorate to begin mid January.

Firefighters battled a basement blaze from an overheated furnace pipe, protecting upper floors and calling in Highland avenue units. Loss estimated as goods damaged by water and smoke. final amount not yet known.
Rev and Mrs Leon Stewart of Burnham arrive after the death of Samuel Stewart at his Struthers residence. Paralysis caused three strokes in a year. He was 76, formerly of North Liberty, survived by his wife Elizabeth and three children Dite Cooper Ralph and the Rev Leon Stewart. Funeral set for Wednesday at Struthers at 1 PM.
A Pennsylvania engine under Engineer W. L. Jenkins from West Madison Avenue jumped the track while shifting to the coal tipple to renew fuel Monday morning. It narrowly avoided toppling onto engines below. Damage was light.
Death records list Mrs. Sarah McKean Leslie aged 67 of 208 North Jefferson Street Frank McKim aged 73 of Ellwood Mrs. Ernest Umbright aged 65 of 79 East Wallace Avenue and Samuel Stewart aged 76 of Struthers.
After months of ill health, Mrs. Sarah McKewan Leslie of 203 North Jefferson Street, widow of J. P. Leslie, died Tuesday morning at home. Born June 25, 1840, in Hollidaysburg, she lived in the city most of her life and was a member of First Presbyterian. Survived by four children Benjamin F. Leslie Eleanor D. Leslie Edward Brindle and Mrs O J H Hartsuff. Funeral Thursday at 2 PM at the residence with Oak Park cemetery interment.
Birchfield Hummel, son of Mr and Mrs La Verne Hummel of Park Avenue, was injured while coasting down Highland Avenue Saturday. He lost control of his sled and collided with a horse, breaking his elbow.
Chauncey Davis, longtime First ward common councilman and Fountain Inn clerk, formally enters the mayoral race. A Republican with three years on the county committee and strong ties to industrial workers, Davis has served on sewer fire and printing committees and is widely known in New Castle for his jovial nature and local connections.
Mrs. C. E. Smith wife of a Pittsburg street hardware merchant was badly burned Monday night when a carpet cleaning preparation exploded covering her face hands and neck with burns. Other family members were in the house and her injuries caused intense agony.
Alfred Graham of 196 Croton Avenue a cement works driver was badly hurt Tuesday near noon with a fractured leg. He was taken home by ambulance, a physician reduced the fracture, and he was later moved to the hospital.
John Patterson was found not guilty by the jury on a conspiracy to murder charge against Judge Richard Holt of Beaver County. The costs of the case were charged to the county.
Impressive funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. for W. S. Hoye at his home on 17 West North Street, led by Rev. W. G. McConnell of Fourth Presbyterian Church. The body was taken to Volant for interment in the M. KE. cemetery with eight Knights Templar from Lawrence Commandery No. 62 acting as escort and pallbearers.
Three typhoid fever cases and one diphtheria case were reported to health officer Horner yesterday. Names and addresses include Mrs. William Montgomery 222 East Long Avenue typhoid, Frank Wilson 117 Bay Street typhoid, F. Dosch 355 State Street typhoid, and Mrs. Robert Graham Superior Street diphtheria.
City and county leaders toured the American Union Telephone plant, praised its modern switchboards and compact system, and attended an elegant Fountain Inn banquet. Mayor Hainer served as toastmaster as bankers and company executives shared humor and pride in the venture.
