George S. McFarland of Court street was appointed by Judge Emery to succeed James A. Gardner as County Commissioner. The unexpired term ends January 1 1920 and McFarland will earn a salary of 1500 dollars under the new law, reflecting his past service and proven integrity.
London reports the armistice extended for one month to 5 a.m. January 17 1919 and to be prolonged until preliminary peace is agreed, pending Allied consent. Information from Treves sources confirms the extension details.
President Wilson aligns with Lloyd George and Clemenceau on punishing the Kaiser and his satellites. He has accepted King George’s London invitation on his homeward journey. In Paris he told President Poincare the war’s issues must be settled to insure future world peace after “ruin” by the Central Powers.

The city loses one of its oldest employees in the street department after 38 years of service. He spent 388 years in city service and recently assisted at the city comfort station before his death.
L. E. Weddell and Clyde Turner of the New Castle branch of the motormen and conductors union were called to Youngstown for talks on a proposed nationwide strike by the Mahoning and Shenango Railway and Light Company workers. The walkout could take effect Sunday evening if the raise is not granted. the company had shown no willingness to meet.
New York December 14 twelve thousand officers converged to pursue two bank robbers who yesterday shot and killed two bank employees, De Witt C. Peak and Henry W. Coons, and fled with 13112 dollars and 35 cents from the East Brooklyn Savings Bank.
