December weather today contrasted with last year when heavy snow and frost affected Brookston and surrounding roads. New Castle High football team known as the Red Hurricane was not invited to Miami High in Florida for a Christmas Day game. Faculty Manager Ralph H. Gardner reported the decision on Sunday after weeks of negotiations and data sharing from New Castle High following Miami High requesting records.
T J Bray, director of the Youngstown Sheet and Lube Co and president of the Republic Bleel Corp, died suddenly in his office in Youngstown today, according to United Press dispatches.
Harle Wynekoop was freed today on charges of being an accessory before the fact of the murder of his wife Rheta Gardner Wynekoop, in the home of Dr. Alice Lindsay Wynekoop on November 21. He remained in temporary custody of Sheriff Myering due to a writ forcing his appearance in Judge Joseph B. David's criminal court this afternoon.
County commissioners report a large lumber truck broke through Eckert's Bridge on the Princeton Portersville road over Sappery Rock Creek. Bert Dinsmore closed the bridge and set detour signs until repairs are finished. Owner's name not learned. Detour via McGannell's Min bridge remains in effect.

In blinding snow near Oak Hill Centre County four members of the Mattis family are killed when a passenger freight train collides with their auto. John Mattis and two other children are injured. Mat tie Mattis is believed to have a broken back. The train was on the Lewisburg Bellefonte run.
Col and Mrs Charles A Lindbergh studied two routes for their homeward flight from Manaos Brazil deciding to depart at dawn. They planned to follow either a 600 mile jungle route via Trinidad or the longer river route down the Negro and Amazon to Para before heading toward Atlantic ports.
Harrisburg officials announce 34 763 applications received for 2500 civil service positions under the state liquor control board. Examinations slated for Saturday. centers expanded from three to six in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, with increases planned in Scranton Wilkes-Barre Williamsport Clearfield Johnstown and Media to accommodate applicants.

Lawrence County speeds up plans to spend every dollar of its allocated Works Admin money and employ all 2575 authorized men. I B Round prepared twenty two project requests over a weekend and sent them to Erle H Biddle in Harrisburg. Upon authorization, 1200 more workers will be put to work. Many projects are in progress, including efforts from New Castle and its school board, to absorb the remaining manpower.
Heavy snow covers county highways delaying several road projects that were set to begin today. Supervisor H J Lughtier said only a few workers reported, with others returning home. Those on site will check with foremen or the state highway office as conditions improve. A large crew clears highways and hills, with seven trucks and 28 men spreading ashes and plows working on drifted areas.
A special New Castle School Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday night at 7:30 o clock in the administration building to discuss projects for the Givi Works Administration. Board members are urged to attend.
Body of Harry Pritehard, murdered by Jack Wisdom, was found four miles northeast of Hi Reno Oklahoma after Wisdom confessed. Ambulance dispatched. Wisdom also implicated by Johnson, Kansas authorities in a related confession.

Four more people died at the Cardington grade crossing near here raising the three year toll. Mr Charles D Winston his wife and their 1 year old daughter Gwendolyn of Delaware were killed when their car was struck by a Big Four passenger train. Henry 22 of Delaware also perished. The car apparently ignored the flashing signal. Last Thursday Raymond F L Davis a Columbus banker and his wife were killed at the crossing.
