Mohawk Elementary back in session after non-specific threat
Mohawk Elementary remained open on Tuesday with precautions after a non-specific threat found Monday in a restroom stall. Superintendent Michael Leitera said staff spoke to students and bag searches of fourth through sixth grades were conducted while a canine sweep was planned. Police led the investigation and security was increased. officials stressed no imminent danger and that the district will continue precautions and communications with law enforcement.

District Faces Annual Deficits After 2015 16 Surplus
Stillwaggon warns the surplus is a one time event and predicts a $1 million deficit next year. School officials have warned of ongoing annual deficits of $1 million or more due to higher state contributions to the Employees Retirement System. Deficits will be covered from the district fund balance of $5,893,050 with the 2015 16 surplus included, but using the balance could exhaust it in a few years, leaving no emergency funds.
