Ethiopian government readies a strong protest to the League of Nations over the Dessye hospital wrecking by Italian war planes. The Red Cross marked building was clearly visible from the air. Italian raids also bombarded Gondar, with unknown but large casualties.
The Fifth Ward first precinct election board denies any wrongdoing in the ballot count and urges a full investigation of large discrepancies between initial tallies and court recounts. A recount prompted by petitions showed a 200 vote shift in alderman results, potentially changing winner Richard R. Lewis over Samuel Bassano, while other offices remained unaffected. A contest was filed by Lewis and certification for Bassano is held up pending determination as recounts continue in second and third precincts.
A pair of Cardinals were seen foraging on Falls Street in New Castle, a rare winter sight as the birds typically migrate south. Deer hunting reports include J. J. Ricer in East Washington and H. A. Anderson in Potter County with seven and six point bucks respectively. Others, including Frank Boya and Balint Kish from Hamilton and Wilson, returned from Cameron County with a large buck. Robert Moon from Temple Avenue brought an eight point buck from Forest County. In Emporium area, three Ralph Avenue men recovered deer this week, while Joseph Owoc, Stephen Badurik, and Charles Owoc brought six and four point deer. C Tackitt of Beckford Street bagged an eight point buck in Warren County and plans to mount the head. A youngster at a New Castle park bench drank ice cream as temperatures dropped. Christmas shopping in New Castle and Lawrence County gains momentum ahead of December 25.
The 24 hour period ending at 8 am recorded a maximum temperature of 30 and a minimum of 23 with no precipitation. River stage stood at 4.2 feet. Year ago the date showed a maximum of 38 and a minimum of 36.
In Weather, Oklahoma, Dan Heady an escaped federal prisoner was killed in a farm house gun battle with a posse of 25 officers. Two others Leonard Short and Dewey Gilmore were wounded with Short near the heart and expected to die. Don Garrett another escapee fled on foot as officers vowed to capture him.
Tokyo reports Japan rejects the nine-power treaty as outmoded and seeks a new agreement with specific Japanese reservations. Tokyo cites China sovereignty and equal signatory rights while signaling that Hull's appeal and Britain's concerns will not change Japan's policy.
Fire swept through the private hospital of Dr. W. C. Shaw in Ridgway Pennsylvania. Officials say an overheated furnace caused the blaze which destroyed a two story frame building and all operating equipment. Dr. Shaw escaped unhurt and damage is estimated above ten thousand dollars.
Double funeral services were held today for Harry Grant 46 and his son Philip 22 of Mundsville after their truck was struck by a train at a crossing in Wheeling West Virginia on December 6.

At the Wolf Run mine near Amsterdam Ohio four miners were killed in an explosion. Thirty one escaped to safety from a workforce of four hundred. Victims were Albert James and Robert Russell of Bergholz and Joseph and Isiah Bowen of Amsterdam. Cause cited carbon monoxide and burns plus significant shaft damage.
Col William Mitchell accused Elliott Roosevelt of once working for aviation lobbyists. Elliott Roosevelt labeled the charge a vicious libel and said he never contacted any member of Congress or government officials to secure publicity or to aid his earnings. The dispute arose during a House patent laws hearing in New York.

Mayor Charles B. Mayne held police court for two women charged with stealing about two dozen bulbs from downtown Christmas trees. He discharged both, warning that similar acts by young men would earn 60 days at the county workhouse, and implying future prosecutions if thefts continue.

In Wadestown West Virginia state troopers shot and killed Howard Hayes 23 and wounded Roy Taylor 35 as they attempted to loot the Wadestown bank. The Mannington men planned to buy machine guns with the loot to start a crime spree. Police also held Howard Wise 35 and C S Jockey Shriver 30 for questioning.
Chicago will make a flat bid of 150000 dollars for each of the two major political conventions in 1936. The offer was disclosed by the Citizens Committee working to bring the Republican and Democratic gatherings to the city.
Vance Coal Company mines 11 and 12 will restart Monday morning December 9 after idling since September 21. Sixty miners and other employees will return to work and indications point to a long run.
Gov. Harold Hoffman said Ellis H. Parker the Burlington county chief of detectives is personally convinced Bruno Richard Hauptmann did not kidnap or murder the Lindbergh baby. Parker has secretly worked on the case since a request from former Gov. A. Harry Moore, tied to the famous 1932 crime.
Governor Hoffman did not visit Hauptmann to whitewash the case. Officials say the interview is part of a final move by New Jersey to prove Hauptmann was guilty and not wrongly accused in the Lindbergh baby murder.
New Castle Rotarians edged Butler in a tight October November attendance contest. New Castle finished with 95.963 percent versus Butler 95.578 percent. the official end came Monday. Sixty three of New Castle's 77 members had perfect attendance. Albert B. Street chaired the attendance committee with E. E. Seavy and Dr. W. L. Campbell assisting.
President Roosevelt at Warm Springs signaled a near term sales tax plan if the AAA and soldier bonus battles go against him. Senate Finance Chairman Walter F. George said a 2 to 3 percent tax could raise about two billion annually. George and Richard Russell met with the president as April 15 adjournment looms.
Italian planes raid Dessye destroying the American Hospital and killing and wounding many. Emperor Haile Selassie narrowly escaped death as his palace was struck during the attack, and the city suffered extensive damage.
Reverend Clarence W. Duff of North Beaver township was reassigned to Dessye Ethiopia, a town razed by Italian bombers this morning. No word yet on whether he has reached the new field.
The army encampment at Dessye was destroyed as Italian planes hit all targets. Flimsy buildings burned swiftly after incendiary bombs, and many bodies were recovered among the dead.
Charles V. Baxter, University of Pittsburgh football end, reappeared at his fraternity house in Pittsburgh after being missing for weeks. He was resting at home and believed to have suffered a mental ailment, clothing ragged and singed, with no explanation of his absence.
