Secretary Mellon told callers at the Treasury today that American business shows solid footing with no inflation or boom risk. He cited steady consumption, a normal good times trend, and noted some inflated stocks exist yet pose no danger unless widespread. A London rate rise and possible Fed re discount shift may influence US markets and curb excess credit.

Twenty-One Years Ago Coal Miners Stayed Out For Six Months
Harrisburg December 3 Peace negotiations broke off and operators and miners began digging in for a long hard coal strike likely longer than the 1902 six month stoppage. About 158000 miners have been out three months since September 1, with winter looming. If the strike lasts another month it could outlast the 1921 or 1902 episodes, bringing hardship to families and business downturns across Pennsylvania. The union and operators remain far apart with Inchot’s peace plan rejected by both sides as unworkable.
