County to negotiate new Hill View Manor contract

Lawrence County commissioners will not renew the Hill View Manor contract with Complete Care Services. They plan to negotiate a new agreement, citing updated nursing home rules and the need for flexibility. The current contract expires in December with a 7 Sept renewal decision deadline. The facility runs 110 to 115 residents in a 136 bed census, leaving 16 unused beds, a factor in federal Medicare and Medicaid per diem adjustments.

Study questions disclosure rules in 4th District race

AP notes a watchdog report finding disclosure laws too weak to flag conflicts in the 4th Congressional District race. It cites Sen Melissa Hart's support for a bill aiding a drug firm in which she owned stock and Rep Terry Van Horne's backing of a grant to an agency connected to a law firm heassociated with, though no legal violations were cited. The piece suggests potential conflicts could go unreported under current statutes.
