State Rep. Frank LaGrotta and Taylor Township officials met with PennDOT District Engineer Henry Nutbrown to push Alternate 168 widening and redesignation as Pa 168 to ease truck traffic. CSX must curb or reroute P&LE rail traffic after its takeover, before PennDOT can lower or widen the road, a plan that may require a temporary closure.
State Rep. Frank LaGrotta and PennDOT District Engineer Henry Nutbrown toured the alternate Pa. 168 bridge in Taylor Township with supervisors. They discussed if CSX could be persuaded to widen the highway and reroute trains. Nutbrown said railroads are not obligated to act though they have become more community minded. officials hope CSX will consider the proposal.
Bryan Dean, a 19-year-old Princeton student and Laurel High graduate, has funded his Penn State education through winnings and sales from Angus cattle. His grand champion steer Max won at the Lawrence County Fair and the state Angus show, selling for 3.75 per pound to Hoss's Steak and Seafood, bringing in about 4630, with other winnings ranging up to 7900 in past years.

Mellon Bank filed a federal suit in Pittsburgh against Michael Manus, Nathan Monus, and Frances Monus for defaulting on a 350 390 loan secured by 25 000 Phar Mor shares. The Monuses were notified of default on Aug 18 after additional collateral requests failed.
Bill Clinton’s campaign stop in Lawrence County involved a large security detail. About 22 state police, under Sgt. Michael Marcantino, escorted Clinton’s car convoy and eight buses from Southern Park Mall in Boardman to the Lawrence County Fair. Exit ramps were blocked to ease the motorcade. Impromptu stops occurred at the state line and downtown New Castle.
