Condemned murderers Fred P. Fair and Sam Aiken escaped from the Fulton County Tower in Atlanta by sawing bars, climbing a 20 foot rope of blankets, crossing the courtyard, and scaling a 25 foot outer wall. Officers statewide pursue them after the night break.
In Camanche Iowa an old rusty sword rests in an attic long after a Civil War era era. The item once glinted in battles and later passed through hands. The story recalls Henry Muhs and his younger brother Peter who joined the Eighth Iowa Infantry Company A in the 1860s and marched away from the town as part of the lost cause narrative. Debate centers on loading practices and whether to place buses in front of Central Presbyterian church or on private ground. A future conference with bus officials is anticipated to centralize bus operations. George Miles family returns from Buffalo and Niagara Falls.
Governor Franklin Roosevelt orders a sweeping investigation of New York City inferior courts in response to the Ewald case. Attorney General Hamilton Ward will arrive to begin steps into alleged trading of a bench seat involving former Magistrate George F. Ewald.
Theodore Russ a six foot two hundred pound Black man was hanged at the New Castle county work house near Wilmington for a attack on Mrs Mary Reed a Kent county farmer's wife on February 24. He walked to the gallows calmly and faced the noose after a gubernatorial reprieve was denied when no new evidence was presented.
The vice president will travel Saturday at 10 26 a m on the Pennsylvania line in his private railroad car attached to No 415 from Pittsburgh to Erie toward the Sharon home coming for Secretary James J Davis. Officials expect Davis to be notified of his Senate nomination by the Republican party with a possible appearance by Senator Reed. A railroad delegation may join the party at Sharon. The private car will linger near Sharon depot before returning to Washington on the 10 p m leg passing New Castle afterward.

Norwegian hunters in Franz Josef Land discovered the remains of Salomon August Andrée and two companions who tried to cross the North Pole by balloon in 1897. The men left Spitzbergen in 1897 and perished. their camp showed bears had torn the site. Andrée diary fragments and clothing were found, and the bodies are being sent to Sweden.
