The morning session featured addresses by David Williams and Peter Bollienbacker and reports from officers.
James L Kilgallen reports that a high powered profiteering operation targets milk and eggs in New York City. Witnesses recount extortion threats and vandalism as two inquiries into milk and general food price gouging unfold with police protection sought for a Greenwhich Street poultry office.

Edward Petrick eight year old son of Mrs Levada Petrick of Hillsville died at Jameson Memorial Hospital after a crash on a slick hill north of Edenburg. His mother Mrs Petrick is hospitalized with bruises and seven year old Hazel Petrick has a broken nose and injuries. Mrs Petrick was returning from Franklin and was driving a coupe with a rumble seat where Edward rode in the rumble seat and Hazel in the front. The hill had been recently oiled leaving the descent very slippery and the car skidded into a ditch.
The large steam shovel cut into a mountain east of Harlansburg to create fill for Perry highway. Grant Street gains paving daily while Pa Newe awaits opening. Optimism about picnic plans despite possible rain. Schools cleaned for 11,000 local children to start September 8. Seventh Ward fire plugs bright and loud. Girl Scouts finish two weeks at Camp East Brook YWCA. Camp season ends Saturday with several hundred campers returning home.
Weather statistics for the 24 hour period ending at 9 o clock this morning show a maximum temperature of 79 and a minimum of 45 with a river stage at 3.9 feet.
A mob of more than 200 men overpowered a jailer at Edgecombe county jail and hanged Oliver Moore, 29, a Black man accused of assaulting two white girls. His body was found near his farm within sight of the jail. Authorities initially expected no violence. Later, 16 merchants met to plan fall and winter activities.
Evans ton Chief of Police William O Freeman admitted receiving a $400 loan from Jack Zuta a slain vice lord and key Aiello Moran gang figure. State investigators summoned Freeman to the state's attorney office and viewed a pencilled note he signed as part of the inquiry.

Benjamin C. McCann, a city letter carrier of North Jefferson Street, is recovering from facial lacerations after diving from Harbor bridge into the Shenango River on Sunday. He sustained wounds when his head struck an old tree in the water but can still perform postal duties.

The Banquet of the Grand Temple of the Pythian Sisters honored present and past grand temple officers with 193 members attending at The Castleton ballroom. The evening featured welcome, responses, a talk on the Pythian Sisters Home for Aged members at Kincora Pa, and gifts to the grand chief. Pop singing added to the event’s diversions.
Phoenix August 19 Mrs Gladys O'Donnell of Long Beach California still held an elapsed time lead in the women's air derby from Long Beach to Chicago as the racers rested in Phoenix. Her margin was under five minutes when the field paused and 20 seconds after she landed Miss Margery Doig of Danbury Connecticut arrived.
Forty two members of a Lawrence County party, who traveled in Europe including the Oberammergau passion play, reached New York aboard the Berengaria and are due to dock Friday. They will arrive at New Castile Saturday morning, according to an official notice.
John Fielding of North Side Pittsburgh is the oldest Knights of Pythias member in Pennsylvania and likely the nation. At about 84, he has served 61 years in the order and acts as official recorder for Grand Lodge proceedings. He has attended Pennsylvania Grand Lodge sessions for 44 years, providing records for delegates.
Edward Schneider a 19 year old Jersey City student set a new junior transcontinental flight record with a 19 hour 41 minute cross country hop in a Cessna cabin plane. He landed at Los Angeles Municipal Airport at 7 13 p m after departing Ontario at 5 19 p m and Long Beach before the final leg.
The Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania Knights of Pythias and Grand Temple of Pennsylvania Pythian Sisters held a joint opening session at the Cathedral auditorium at nine. Delegates from across the state attended a brief yet impressive program. A notable moment saw William C. Hess present his son C. W. Herman Hess with the gavel to preside during the sessions.
