Miss Margaret Li Cowan a 71 year old former nurse once tied to wealthy families was held in Lehigh county prison for the mercy slaying of her sister at Allentown State Mental Hospital The 66 year old Louella Sager patient died after Miss Cowan fired three shots and then stood by the body as John Sager husband arrived witnesses said police recovered a .32 caliber revolver from the suspect who spoke of putting her sister out of misery

Reno reports four suspects including the earless man Bob La Deceur remain in custody after new evidence emerges in the wrecking of the City of San Francisco in a Nevada desert canyon Saturday night. The exonerated suspect was to be released but authorities now keep him detained as cellmate information links him to the sabotage causing 23 deaths and 118 injuries.
Eighteen-year-old Paul Cox, most seriously injured of 12 hurt, remained in far condition at Beaver Falls hospital after a collision where a small coupe pulled into a Greyhound bus en route from Chicago to New York. James W. McGary of 634 South Bay street New Castle entered the New London Coast Guard Academy class of 243. Four Pennsylvanians joined. McGary is the only entrant from western Pennsylvania.

Coroner's jury ruled on July 31 deaths of Ignatz Dombrowski and Edward Dombrowski near a Reno Hill road site. Edward Dombrowski allegedly killed Ignatz and then died by his own hand. investigators included D. A. Lamoree and L. Donaldson. Witness Hudak, a state officer, described finding the car and bodies as a revolver lay nearby.
The CIO plans to deploy all available organizers into Ohio and Pennsylvania as the NLRB orders Bethlehem Steel to disestablish unions in 10 plants across three states. CIO SWOC votes for a new drive covering Bethlehem and Republic Steel, intending to use the ruling as a mobilizing signal. About 200 organizers will be redirected from other duties to the mill belt.
Prosecutor Earl V. Compton pressed Victor Skok, a Pittsburgh insurance agent and one of three defendants in a bonding conspiracy trial, about half of another agent’s commissions for bonds not rendered. Skok testified that I. D. McQuiston sent Kirk Insurance to him for Pasenmyer bonds, and that he did not perform any work on the Pasenmyer bond yet claimed the commission.
In Harrisburg on Aug 16 Victor Skok a Pittsburgh insurance agent and one of three defendants in the state's bonding conspiracy trial testified he did not agree to intimidate contractors or bond agents. He denied any past involvement in the bonding business with former secretary of the commonwealth David L. Lawrence, who was linked to the Lawrence Harris Insurance company where James P. Kirk Pittsburgh city treasurer and Allegheny County Democratic chairman serves as secretary.

James Russell Long, 59, deputy IRS collector and longtime New Castle resident, died in his Federal Building office on Tuesday afternoon after a brief heart attack. He was born December 1, 1879, and survived by his sister Ella Long, three nieces Mary Long Peters Ogden and one nephew E John Long. Funeral services set for Thursday night at 8 at the Grant Street residence.
