Family Escapes Fire After Overheated Furnace Blaze

Francis Walker and family fled their Harbor Road Union township home in night clothes as an overheated furnace caused a fire that destroyed the structure about 2 50 this morning. Loss is about 4500 with some insurance. A gas drum in the cellar prompted fear during the early hours before escape via the porch roof.

Old Timers Day Draws Crowd To Cascade Park

The twenty fourth annual Old Timers Day attracted a large crowd to Cascade Park with a Grand March at Rainbow Terrace led by Harvey E. McGoun and daughter Fannie Gormley. Pilots Dale Red Jackson and Forrest O Brine rode the endurance plane Greater St Louis to a new sky record as they remained aloft for 554 hours 41 minutes 30 seconds surpassing the Hunter brothers. St Louis Couple Safe After Train Kidnap Fiasco

They returned home safely after a large search prompted by fears a Toledo deal involved con artists posing as wealthy partners. Carnegie Minister Injured In Crash

The Rev Henry Russell aged 25 of Carnegie was injured yesterday when his car was forced from the road by a hit and run motorist near Altoona Pennsylvania. His wife escaped with minor injuries and continued to Wilkes Barre where the couple were headed. The minister was taken to Altoona hospital for treatment.

Freezing Weather Reported in Hills of State

Stroudsburg Pa August 13 Freezing temperatures and a thin skim of ice were reported today at promised land a state camp in Pike county. At 5 am the mercury dropped to 32 degrees and a thin coating of ice formed on the lake edge. Frost was formed at Lords Valley also in the Pocono mountains near Skytop. The Stroudsburg reading fell to 40 degrees the lowest mark ever recorded here on August 13.
