Navy captain relieved over cannibalism rumor refugees
A U.S. Navy captain, Capt. Alexander Balian of the amphibious ship Dubuque, was relieved pending investigation into his decision to turn away a boatload of Vietnamese refugees who later reportedly resorted to cannibalism. The refugees, rescued after 37 days at sea, were among the growing numbers picked up by U.S. warships this year amid Vietnam shortages.

Reinstated laid off teacher returns as floater pool member

No nursing student shortage reported by local schools
Officials at Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and St Francis Hospital School of Nursing say there is no immediate shortage of nursing students. Ideal first year class sizes are 50 to 55 at Jameson, and 25 to 30 at St Francis. About 41 applications have been received at Jameson with 14 men among the enrollees. St Francis has 28 accepted with goal of 30. Both schools emphasize recruitment and Penn State tuition reimbursement for employed graduates pursuing BSN degrees.
