A tractor trailer crash three miles south of Bordentown, New Jersey, killed 21 year old William L. Wiscom of Tampa Florida. His unidentified helper was in critical condition at St Francis Hospital Trenton. The other truck driver, John Layton 46 of Harrisonburg Virginia, was uninjured.

Maryland authorities investigate the death of Linnea Bors, a 16 year old from Philadelphia. She toppled from a motor boat on the North East River near Charlestown and was mangled by the propeller. She died in Union Hospital Elkton last night.
Rev Fr Francis C Streiff former pastor of St Josephs on Jefferson Street receives transfer to North Side Pittsburgh church succeeding the late Rev Fr Alvin Forney. Appointed by Bishop Hugh C Boyle and effective August 19. Fr Cornelius H Becker to replace him at St Josephs.
Herbert Hoover, the nation s only living former president, will receive a 74th birthday tribute in West Branch Iowa. A plaque honoring four horseshoes found at the old blacksmith site will be presented and Hoover will deliver an address via National Radio Networks from the cottage yard. He will also receive an honorary Doctor of Seeg degree from Coe College.
Merchant Marine officials launched an investigation after a morning collision on the Detroit River involving the 10,500 ton freighter Edward M. Saunders Jr. and the Wabash car ferry Detroit. Captain Kiel said a hearing could follow if negligence is found. The Saunders, owned by Midland Steamship Co., was carrying ore from Superior, Wisconsin to Cleveland, Ohio.
The 97 day strike at Univis Lens Co in Dayton Ohio ends as CIO United Electrical Workers Union members vote to accept the company’s latest proposal. All strikers return to work except 11 workers. The proposal mirrors the plan first offered August 1 by company president H Stangey.

Philip C Jessup, spokesman for the U S, outlined the western powers view and blamed Marshal Tito for attempts to seize the territory, urging investigation into Yugoslavia.

New air lift record reported as 347 flights delivering 2 457 tons of food and supplies to the western sectors around Berlin.
