The Lawrence County PARC hosted a Wednesday picnic at Water Works Park with over 100 attendees. Guests included County Commissioner Widddam C. Houk and state PARC rep Peter Pelloni. Music by Dan Kielar and Steve Smith, plus invocation by Rev. Roger Smith. Local volunteers and United Commercial Travelers aided with food and ice cream. PARC offices are at 808 Cunningham Ave.

Rev and Mrs Golikes from Bambari Central Africa will speak at 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. at First Baptist Attica East and North streets. He is dean of Baptist Bible Seminary and editor for Bible School DVBS literature for Baptist mid Missions Central Africa. Mrs Golikes leads music and women’s programs in Africa. The couple uses the Sango language and are parents of six, living at Bunker Hill during furlough.

Hillsville resident Eugene F. Zarlengo reported about 44 dollars in damage to his home from vandals who tore up a flower garden and pushed a garden nose through a cellar window screen letting water into the basement. A 20 dollar damage to a billboard owned by Johnson Sign Co. near U.S. 224 was noted. About 15 area homes reported damage as windows broken and lawn furniture moved.
