Ohio saloons shrink as tax rolls drop
Ohio auditor records show 458 fewer saloons in the state by July and a revenue shortfall of 897207.19 since January. Despite the decline, total revenue from the Aiken tax year to date exceeds 1905 by 4909950.12, due to the higher tax rate on the remaining establishments. The drop results from local option votes and saloonkeepers failing to earn enough to pay the tax.
