United Steelworkers chief Murray orders immediate walkout after Judge Pine voids Truman steel seizure. By midnight the strike spans mills nationwide with about 100000 workers off duty and further stoppages anticipated as steelmakers rush to idle plants and avert equipment damage.
INEWC notes mark the 50 year anniversary of the Philippine War ending April 30, 1902. Pa Newe warns youths riding after dark need proper bike illumination to aid drivers. Local officials report more automobile graveyards along Elmwood Road and assess cross walks and parking violators to keep alleys clear for emergency access.

Patterson, born on a North Beaver township farm, has been a teacher, minister, YMCA executive, personality consultant and PR counselor, directing over 80 campaigns across various communities.
Mrs. Annie Schad aged 76 of Johnson Street died at 11 05 am from injuries after an auto struck her as she stepped from between two cars on East Washington Street. Driver William Pacai of West Pittsburg reports starting his car after a green light. Coroner investigating. She is survived by five children three sisters five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements pending.
Eisenhower secures 29 of Massachusetts Republican convention delegates to Taft's three as he leads in the write-in presidential tally. He wins 27 delegates from 14 districts including Cape Cod ninth, with six of 10 at large seats uncommitted, narrowing Taft's national lead to 269 to 262. He ranks second to Estes Kefauver in the write-in tally.
George S Frickanisce 46 chief of police for Arnold Pa died after a two car collision ten miles south of Ridgway as he returned from visiting the father of patrolman Ernest Johnson. Sergeants Edward Bollinger 46 and Rusiewicz 40 injured.
In southern Japan a U S military air transport C 46 crashed on Mount Aso killing four crew aboard. It followed two prior American air crashes in three days, with nine total deaths. Names were withheld pending next of kin notification.
Allied protests over two Soviet fighter planes attacking an Air France DC-4 from Frankfurt to Berlin faced a Soviet denial alleging the French aircraft violated a flight corridor between West Germany and Berlin. The Russians said the jets pursued the airliner after it passed Merseburg and fired warning shots as the plane continued toward Leipzig.
