Retired Brig Gen Schulz in serious condition at Fort Belvoir
Retired Brigadier General Robert L. Schulz, longtime aide to President Eisenhower, is hospitalized at Fort Belvoir Army Hospital in serious condition after a heart ailment. The 61 year old was rushed from his Alexandria home Saturday. A hospital spokesman said his condition remained stable through the night. Schulz joined Eisenhower in 1945 as White House military aide and later managed the former president's office at Gettysburg.

Community conferences on nonpolitical judges held in Pa
Harrisburg UPI reports the second and third of six meetings on nonpolitical statewide judges take place in Bethlehem and Wilkes Barre today. State Atty. Gen. William C. Sennett hailed the plan, saying it would place Pennsylvania among states with nonpolitical judges meeting high professional standards. A committee led by former Govs William Scranton and George Leader aims to persuade voters to approve the proposal at the May 20 primary.

Robbers loot Manufacturers Hanover Trust in New York
Four men armed with a shotgun and revolvers burst into the Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co in New York and grabbed about $20,000 in cash. They held tellers at bay before escaping to a getaway car, abandoning the car keys inside the bank as police closed in. The suspects fled on foot after officers arrived.

Bus overturns injuring seven in Butler area crash
A small van type bus rolled over on Route 68 near Connoquenessing Two in Butler County injuring the driver and six special education students. Attendants at Butler Memorial Hospital reported no serious injuries. It followed a separate crash last Tuesday when a full sized bus carrying more than 50 students overturned near Harmony on Rio 68.

Harrisburg UPI A lump sum payment of 423740 to heirs of state Supreme Court Justice Michael A. Musmanno prompted Gov. Shafer to order a three pronged investigation of the retirement system by the Justice Department the Office of Administration and the Employes Retirement Board. The inquiry will review 20 state employee records to assess current pension levels and includes Shafer on the list. Musmanno died at 72 after a 40 year career in state service earning 37500 as a justice. His retirement options included boosted contributions and a social security integration supplement, with the estate still set to receive full benefits. His total pension inputs totaled 59062 with 46182 interest and 31546 state contributions.
