In Eddyville Kentucky three Black men executed for murder faced the chair after a two hour clash in a jail cell. Walter Holmes, 31, Chicago, threw hot water on guards and grabbed a lead pipe wrench. Guards scalded, reinforcements arrived. He surrendered after tear gas and tear bombs were used.

Mrs Ailey suffered a forehead cut. Edna McHattie and E E Blackford were injured as well. The crash followed a snapped rear axle causing the Riley car to veer into Blackford’s oncoming vehicle.
