West Pittsburg alumni gather for the first West Pittsburg schools reunion on May 15. David Benn, 65, Ellwood City, serves on the planning committee and promises a night of dinner music and nostalgia as former students reconnect after many years.

Attendees recall a brick building on Center Avenue, a 1907 era school, and consolidation in 1958 with New Castleweg School District. Remembrances highlight Germaine and wartime youth experiences. Defense team seeks appeal to move the case against a 12-year-old charged with fatally shooting Rene Houk, a vegan fiancé of the victim, who was shot in bed on February 20 2008. Judge Dominik Mania had rejected a motion to transfer the case to juvenile status. Defense attorneys David Acker and Deas Frisco filed the petition.
In a brelisiy hearing yesterday Judge Scots Metrath dismissed all charges against Edward Shenan of 2603 Thorge Street while Mark Queat of 1183 Gra Ted faced continued arson and related charges. Sheridan had counts dropped leaving Gunt charged with three counts of arson criminal mischief and criminal conspiracy.
Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Dan Onorato visited New Castle to tout economic growth and state budget plans. He pledged to extend Allegheny County success statewide and announced county commissioners Steve Craig and Rich DeBlasio as supporters, with New Castle Mayor Anthony Mangino absent.
