House saved as it crosses Pa. 108 to Shannon Street

A white two story home with blue trim, about 150 years old, was moved along Pa. 108 to Shannon Street to avoid demolition for Beaver Valley Expressway work. The move halted traffic briefly as power lines were disconnected and the house traveled at about 5 mph. Previously owned by Dr. and Mrs. Keith L. Mayberry, it was sold to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, then to a wrecking crew and finally to Eiselstein Castles, which arranges relocations. State Rep. Thomas J. Fee and former senator W. Thomas Andrews helped spare the house three days before demolition. Now owned by Eiselstein Castles partner Terry Cunningham and family, there are no plans for landmark status. the family aims to restore it as much as possible.
