Harrisburg reports nine liquor license revocations and 21 suspensions today by the Liquor Control board. Bond forfeitures total $10,000. Ninety four loads of tin cans were collected by the Tin Can brigade in the Second ward yesterday. The work ran from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Today the brigade moved to the Fourth ward and will enter the Third ward Saturday. Cans should be placed on curbs in the Third ward tonight for 7 a.m. collection tomorrow. A total of 298 loads have been removed under Councilman J M Rice and Garbage Collector Ed Umbright.
Hyde Park April 28 President Roosevelt rejected a Washington dispatch claim that he discussed a plan to meet Mussolini and Hitler at sea or near a neutral island. He said the story by Arthur Krock in the New York Times is not true though it is interesting and well written. Hassett released the remark to reporters at Poughkeepsie.
Hazel M. French of Ellwood City has been appointed stenographer clerk with the State Highway Department. She will be stationed at the new maintenance building on Wilmington road.
Chicago police announced Jimmy Murray, 52, Rondout mail bandit, identified as the driver of the getaway car used in the Clintonville Pennsylvania bank robbery on October 24. Fural mail carrier Howard Potter testified he entered the bank during the robbery, which was carried out by three men, before U.S. Commissioner Edwin Walker during Murray’s transfer proceedings.
Mrs Anne Lindbergh and her two sons arrived in Englewood New Jersey under heavy police escort after docking the French liner Champlain. Charles A Lindbergh, her husband, is said to be conducting a secret survey of American aerial facilities.
With over 400 tickets sold a testimonial dinner honors Assemblyman W Sharp Fullerton and Highway Superintendent Edwin Reed at Westfield Grange on Saturday night April 29. Soviet long distance flyer Vladimir Kokkinaki and navigator Mik hail Gordienko diverted from Moscow to the Atlantic as they aim for a 4600 mile nonstop westward flight to New York. The Moscow twin engined monoplane "Moscow" left Shakanovea airfield at 419 a.m. local time to signal Soviet participation in the upcoming New York World's Fair.
An April 29 crash on the Willam Penn highway north of Allison Park killed Eugene Albert, 20, of Millvale, and left three others injured. Police arrested Edward Conway and Morris Shapiro on looting charges as investigators linked the wreck to a series of county truck robberies.
Berlin reports the formal reply to President Roosevelt's peace message was delivered by forwarding a copy of Chancellor Hitler's Reichstag speech. Raymond H. Geist, American chargé d'affaires, announced the embassy received the official copy through a Foreign Office messenger at 2 p.m. for relay to Washington.
