Washington mourns as Supreme Court Justice Harlan Fiske Stone dies at 43 from a cerebral hemorrhage after a court session. He collapsed earlier, and officials pay tribute to a towering voice on the bench.
Hollywood actress Marilyn Maxwell files for divorce from actor John Conte citing extreme cruelty. The couple wed in New York in September 1944 and separated last February.
The high court reported Chief Justice's illness described as a slight attack of indies. He was escorted to his chambers by two court colleagues and later returned home with Mrs. Stone. His wife and two sons, Lauren Stone and Dr. Marshall, were mentioned as part of the family.

They arrive near six thirty, have dinner, then attend a reception at the Stanton hotel lobby from 7:30 to 9:30 accompanied by political writers from Pennsylvania newspapers.

Montrose Pennsylvania April 23 two motorcycle riders were killed when their vehicle veered off the highway and threw them to the ground. State Trooper David Capogelli identified the victims as Philip Seller of Great Bend and Anthony Egaponik, 21, of Lakewood Wayne County. Both men had broken necks.
