Students Help Clean Up City in Earth Day Effort
About 20 New Castle High School students participated in a spring cleanup along Rural Avenue and at Gaston Park, gathering plastic bottles and debris as part of Earth Day and Keep PA Beautiful month observances. Kasandra Rice, 15, climbed a wall and hillside to reach litter, saying she likes to see the city clean.

Humane Society fundraiser honors two former workers
The eighth annual Homeless to Home benefit for the Humane Society of Lawrence County will be May 7 at Cascade Park Pavilion from noon to five. It features 200 basket raffles, a bake sale, 50/50 raffle and a pasta dinner priced at ten dollars for adults and five for children five and under. no entry fee. Shelter staff recall former kennel worker Robert Webb Sr. who died at 68 and volunteer David Harding Jr. who died at 45, noting Webb was nicknamed the "Dog Father" and Harding loved animals and volunteering.

Laurel family visits Kennedy Space Center to watch SpaceX launch
Jeff Reckard and his family including Samantha and Juliette Pemberton Reckard traveled to NASA's Kennedy Space Center to witness the SpaceX Crew 6 Dragonstone Capstone launch toward the International Space Station. They rose at 2 a.m. for a 6:45 a.m. liftoff, but the attempt was scrubbed two minutes before liftoff due to a fluid ignition issue, leaving the family disappointed yet hopeful for a future launch.
