Union Square center eyed after warm township response
Peter Gerney of Mark Centers Trust told Union Township officials that local support for the 400000 square foot Union Square shopping center on a 200 acre tract by U.S. 224 and the Pa. 60 interchange is unusually strong. Construction could start in fall pending state and federal approvals, including wetlands delineation and sewer plans already approved by the DER. The project plans shifted from enclosed mall to strip center as anchor tenants scaled back, with Hills, J C Penney, K Mart and Bon Ton among four major chains negotiating while Wal Mart may open nearby, boosting highway activity and airport improvements seen as positive for development.
