Desperado duel ends bank robbery attempt in Wampum
In Wampum a known desperado and two accomplices tried to rob the town bank at the edge of a busy Saturday. Henry Willoughby shot the fleeing burglar in a close duel, wounding himself and the thief. The other robber fled and was found dead in an alley at daybreak. Willoughby, a Kentucky baker now living in Wampum, was treated for wounds and hailed as the scene’s hero.
