British Suffer More Casualties In Day's Attacks

British casualties rose on the Yangtze as two warships Hood and Black Swan exchanged fire with Communist shore batteries. Hood reported 15 killed and 17 wounded, Black Swan suffered multiple deaths and dozens wounded, while the Amethyst and Consort also sustained losses in the river fighting near Nanking.

Traffic officer guides buses at Mill and Washington intersection

A traffic officer on Wednesday directed bus passengers to North or South Jefferson streets. Northbound buses left from the southeast corner, while southbound buses left from the northwest corner. State Highway surveyors worked at North Jefferson and Wallace Avenue gathering information as a peculiar instrument was in use.
