The United States plans major cuts in domestic flour use by 25 percent starting Monday to ease world famine. Wheat and corn stocks will be tapped, with 20 cent bonuses offered to farmers to release grain. UNRRA asks action as several nations face bread shortages. mills and manufacturers told to limit wheat stocks and to export excess stock to CCC.

A driver trespassed around a red stop sign near East Washington street and Butler avenue. Shenango township reports many homes under construction. Easter church attendance may surpass records due to ideal weather. An uptick in house and building painting could benefit the city and county.

Sheriff W Petit announced Howard Pollard 24 confessed to killing Leland Miller 24 and dismembering his body found in two counties last April. Pollard allegedly admitted the crime during drunken dispute to Deputy Virg Quinn in Pollard’s home the night of April 10. He denied dismembering the body.
An unidentified pilot of a mystery plane nearly collided with an Eastern Air Lines transport near Bristol Pennsylvania carrying six passengers. Officials debated ownership with Navy and Army Air Forces denying possession and stating it may belong to the Army. The War Department to announce after checks. The incident prompted adherence to civil aviation regulations. In Charlestown West Virginia the town clock resumed operation after two days when workmen cleared birds nesting in the mechanism.
The University of Texas mourns 18 year old Georgia Stevens, a freshman sorority candidate and Aqua-Carnival finalist, who died from burns after her gown ignited during a candlelight initiation at the Delta Delta Delta house. Two others burned their hands. Sigma Chi brothers aided with a makeshift stretcher. Georgia died at Seton Hospital after transfusions.
Governor Edward Martin plans Easter observances in Harrisburg and at Indiantown Gap. He will attend a small Presbyterian church in the morning and an Easie musicale and tea for army personnel in the afternoon, avoiding a repeat church visit. The governor will keep the church name private. His daughter and son in law, Mr. and Mrs. James B Murphy, will join him for the holidays.
Carlisle Pa April 20 Ray Adams 32 of Carlisle suffered severe internal injuries when run over by a fire truck he tried to board. Firemen were en route to a fire when the accident occurred. A former fireman on furlough from the Army heard the alarm and ran to join his old company.

In Toledo Ohio Mrs Mary Shulman 55 wife of prominent businessman Maron Shulman owner of the Ohio Merchandise company died after a mysterious slugging in a neighbor’s yard. A 16 year old maid employed by the Tarloff residence confessed to the slaying to police. The maid fled after discovering the victim and has since disappeared.
A Barrett Manufacturing Company Frankford plant in Philadelphia suffered a roaring blaze sparked by blasts of chemical compounds. Three alarms drew fire units, with two more added as explosions and heat hampered crews. The fire endangered the neighborhood, following a prior six-alarm blaze the previous day causing significant damage.
A House Military Affairs subcommittee report harshly criticizes Army justice noting 142 death sentences carried out after courts martial from December 7 1941 to February 1944. The full committee delays action to allow War Department response and witnesses including Undersecretary Kenneth Royall.
In Ashburnham Massachusetts two Emerson College classmates of Mary Catherine Decamp 28 from Philadelphia said they believed she was joking when she said she was going down after their canoe overturned. Police continued to search upper Natukeag lake for her body as Ruth Rideout 19 and Jean Gildner 18 swam to shore and collapsed. They told Mrs Phoebe Rideout Ruths mother that Mary was an excellent swimmer and they thought she would reach shore.
The ten thousandth war bride aboard the Queen Mary arrives in New York with her child. Mrs Winifred Lily Perry of London married in September 1944 to First Lt Lonnie Warren Perry of Albemarle, North Carolina, who served in England France and Germany. Her family includes seven brothers and four sisters. two brothers were killed in Egypt serving with the British Army.
U S weather bureau bulletin from Harrisburg issued via International News Service notes showers today and late Monday. Cooler tonight through Tuesday with temperatures 5 to 10 degrees above normal across Western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio.
