AFL CIO President George Meany told a Senate Labor subcommittee he is disenchanted with strikes and has named a committee to pursue an alternative weapon. He spoke yesterday about changing tactics to pressure for labor goals.

Senator Edmund Muskie of Maine spoke to 1500 plus attendees in New Castle praising tax reform and criticizing Nixon. A campaign song titled Muskie is the President for your was written by Councilman Eugene DeCaprio and performed at the Cathedral dinner. Muskie vowed to close tax loopholes and raise corporate taxes while warning against Phase Two, with CBS coverage planned.
In Washington Pennsylvania UPI reports Silius Huddleston of LaFollette Tennessee faced delay as juror dismissed and new venire summoned. Trial moved to May 3 to review Huddleston’s lung disease and a request for venue change. Huddleston linked to Jock Yablonski murder plot with daughter Annette Gilly claiming his key role. Deputy and prosecutors debated tactics as defense sought to avoid delay amid illness and age concerns.
City and state police were commended for cooperation with Secret Service agents and efficiency in security for Sen. Muskie in New Castle. Chiefs said local officers satisfied with work. security steps began at landing and continued until Muskie departed for Ohio, with police assisting escort and traffic control.
