In Harrisburg the special House committee dropped former Police Commissioner E. Wilson Purdy from contempt proceedings. Rep. Leach said the vote was unanimous and that he would seek to cite three others who refused to testify at a March 15 hearing. Purdy resigned April 8 and may be called again if new testimony is needed.

A major spring storm moving from the Rockies swept the Central Plains bringing heavy snow in Wyoming and drifting highways. Violent thunderstorms hit Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma with blizzards and rain in Illinois and along the Gulf Coast. At least six deaths were reported in Illinois Texas and Wyoming from vehicle crashes and pileups, with Pensacola and Mobile noting heavy rains.

Moonport picket lines stall Cape Kennedy projects

Ford Motor Co recalls about 30,000 1966 model cars after a defect could damage brake lines.
