Western Electric Strike Agreement Reached After Bargaining
New York April 19. The Western Electric Co and CIO Communications Workers of America reached a one year settlement ending a wage dispute that slowed telephone traffic. The agreement raises basic wages by about 14.1 cents an hour to 23 cents and adds 17 cents more. still excludes 6,000 distributors and warehouse workers. Ratification by 10,000 installation workers is required. Federal mediators led the talks.

Jury Acquits Man in Shooting Of Pittsburgh Teacher
Lawrence Robinson, 24, was acquitted of the near fatal shooting of Janet Mackrell a Pittsburgh school teacher. The verdict came after three hours and 35 minutes of deliberation. Robinson remains in the Allegheny county workhouse to finish seven months of a one year burglary term. Mackrell still bears a bullet in her head from the January 9 1951 attack and questions the jury ruling. police had tied him to the crime via identification and lie detector results but alibi showed him at a downtown bowling alley.
