In Rawlins Wyoming on April 19 1939 Stanley B Lantzer 38 a former hayfield worker was executed in the Wyoming State Penitentiary gas chamber for fatally shooting his estranged wife Cecil in 1938. Thirty two cyanide pellets dropped into sulfuric acid released poison and Dr C W Jeffrey the prison physician declared him dead two minutes ten seconds later. Lantzer’s execution marked the second use of the chamber since 1935 replacing hanging.
