Retired woodworker crafts giant decorative crosses in New Castle
John Carr of Springfield Township pursues a 46 year hobby by hand carving wooden crosses. From a first 1941 project in Pittsburgh to a current 39 by 26 inch cross, he built 362 pieces with 2708 notches. He retraced the craft after retirement, teaching little and detailing jig use for assembly.
