In December 1966 the local union urged inclusion of Lawrence County in two cases and notified USW President I. W. Abel of the move. The letter signals continuing union effort to have the county added to ongoing proceedings.
At a union meeting last night Local 4194 voted to withdraw from bargaining covering five plants. North American Rockwell operates plants in Gary and Logansport Indiana Newton Falls Ohio and has divisions in New Castle for spring transmission and axle work.
Washington report says Attorney General Ramsey Clark warned that allowing police to shoot to kill or maim arsonists could escalate civil unrest. Clark urged restraint during civil disorders at an ASNE meeting, while Chicago Mayor Daley defended a shoot to kill policy for arsonists and a plan to shoot to maim looters.
Public Welfare Department data show 387 abuse cases in Pennsylvania during 1967, including 13 deaths. Allegheny led with 100 cases, Philadelphia 45. most victims were under nine, with over half reported by medical authorities. A new unified reporting law aims to improve statewide statistics and enforcement.
Considerable cloudiness with scattered showers in western sections today spreading east this afternoon and tonight. Highs 58 to 65 north and 64 to 72 south. Lows in the 40s to low 50s. Friday remains cloudy near seasonal temperatures with a chance of showers mainly south.
President Johnson, returning from Hawaii, pledged South Korea a full voice in any Vietnam peace negotiations and reaffirmed U S commitments to defend South Korea. He, with Park Chung Hee, issued a joint communiqué after a Honolulu meeting. Johnson planned a stop at March AFB for a briefing with Eisenhower before Texas ranch weekend.
Washington reports communications workers prepared to strike the Bell Telephone system in a coast to coast walkout slated to begin at 3 p.m. EST. Government and union officials call the move inevitable and warn it could slow or disrupt dial and regular services nationwide.
Sen. Eugene McCarthy told 4,200 Pittsburgh listeners that Secretary of State Dean Rusk should resign to signal a change in Vietnam policy. He accused Rusk of clinging to the initial stance and said a resignation would be symbolic. McCarthy urged a new peace approach as President Johnson exited the race.
UPI report from Saigon notes two consecutive days of massive B52 strikes on the A Shau Valley infiltration route near Laos and Hue. Intelligence cites about 10 000 Communist troops moving toward Hue as Casualties surge with 363 U S troops killed and 2694 wounded last week.
Nationwide murder and conspiracy warrants target Eric Starvo Galt, a riverboat cook and merchant seaman, and an alleged brother. The FBI links a .30-06 rifle found near the Memphis flophouse to Galt, notes travel to Los Angeles and Mexico, and cites a Birmingham purchase. Witnesses question the FBI photo.

A 1953-born tenth grade student from Ellwood City died hours after a head injury from a baseball at a game. He was hospitalized in Ellwood City and Pittsburgh before dying at 11:10 p.m. He was an altar boy and CYO member from St Monica Church in Wampum and played Pony League baseball last year. Surviving are his parents, a brother Mark and sister Marianne. Visitation at Harold J. Marshall Funeral Home in Wampum. Requiem Mass at St Monica Church followed by interment in St Agatha Cemetery.

Hanoi signaled opposition to a third site and Kosygin urged immediate acceptance. Rusk warned Washington would not talk from weakness and urged Hanoi not to miss the chance to negotiate.
